XRPL Maintenance Amendment Approaches Activation While Lending and Vault Proposals Wait

XRP Ledger validators are moving forward with a maintenance amendment expected around October 23, while proposed native lending and vault features remain short of the required approval votes.

XRP Ledger validators are preparing for the activation of the fixCleanup3_4_0 maintenance amendment, which is anticipated around October 23, 2026, provided that the necessary supermajority support holds. However, this technical package is distinct from the proposed native lending and single asset vault features, which currently remain short of the required approval threshold.

The maintenance package groups essential corrections to transaction behavior across automated market makers, permissioned decentralized exchanges, NFTs, escrows, and transaction signing. It also patches critical bugs, including an overflow flaw that could have potentially created extra spendable XRP. Importantly, deploying code within a software release does not automatically translate to network activation, as XRPL requires more than 80% support from trusted validators for two consecutive weeks before any rule change becomes active.

Meanwhile, the proposed LendingProtocol and SingleAssetVault amendments require separate votes and are currently below the necessary consensus levels. The proposed lending framework is designed for fixed-term, uncollateralized loans where credit assessment, risk management, and underwriting are performed offchain. This means that while the ledger can record terms, balances, and payment events, the ultimate credit risk and economic outcomes depend entirely on human underwriting, broker-funded first-loss capital buffers, and the actual repayment performance of borrowers.

Furthermore, recent revisions such as the V1_1 proposal introduce closed-ended vault phases and cash-basis accounting to handle unpaid interest more conservatively, preventing future scheduled payments from being mistakenly recorded as cash already earned. Prospective depositors must closely examine asset types, withdrawal restrictions, first-loss coverage, and impaired loan records before engaging with any future production pools on the network.
