Ripple’s RLUSD Stablecoin Goes Live on Coinbase Across Multiple Blockchains

Ripple's dollar-backed stablecoin, RLUSD, has officially launched on Coinbase, marking a significant milestone for its adoption among retail and institutional users. The integration allows customers to trade, hold, and transfer RLUSD through the Coinbase Retail app, Coinbase Exchange, and Coinbase Prime. Furthermore, the launch supports deposits and withdrawals across three major blockchain networks: the XRP Ledger, Ethereum, and Base, providing users with increased flexibility and reducing friction in cross-chain transactions.

Despite the expanded accessibility, market analysts emphasize the importance of understanding the underlying mechanics of stablecoins. While blockchain networks facilitate rapid transfers, the actual dollar backing and redemption processes rely heavily on the institutions involved. RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company, a regulated subsidiary of Ripple, while BNY acts as the primary reserve custodian. The reserves consist of U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S. Treasuries, and cash equivalents, providing a solid foundation that has recently earned favorable credit ratings from major agencies.

In addition to the current listing, Ripple and Coinbase plan to introduce future services, including RLUSD collateral support on the Coinbase Global Exchange. This upcoming feature aims to allow eligible institutional customers to pledge the stablecoin against margin exposures. However, experts remind users that market value, trading volume, and exchange inflows are distinct metrics that should not be confused with direct redemption capabilities or immediate bank guarantees. As RLUSD continues to expand its footprint across major platforms like Coinbase, Robinhood, and Bitstamp, its long-term success will ultimately depend on reliable network performance, robust liquidity, and seamless conversion back to fiat currency.
