Deutsche Bank's Institutional Digital Asset Custody Service Is Weeks Away

Deutsche Bank prepares to launch its institutional digital asset custody service in Germany, focusing initially on Bitcoin and Ether before expanding to stablecoins and global markets.

Deutsche Bank, Germany's leading financial institution, is reportedly only weeks away from launching its first institutional digital asset custody service. According to recent statements from corporate bank co-head Gerald Podobnik, the initial rollout will primarily target major cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin and Ether. Following this initial launch, the bank plans to introduce stablecoin movement, tokenized deposits, and digital securities for its corporate and institutional clients.

While the bank's September release listed assets including Bitcoin, Ether, USDC, EURC, and EURAU, executive comments clarify that a supported asset list does not automatically guarantee immediate live trading or fiat conversion facilities. The initial core service centers strictly on safekeeping and transfers, utilizing hardware security modules, multi-approvals, and segregated client ledgers in compliance with European MiCA regulations.

Looking ahead, Deutsche Bank intends to expand its digital asset footprint into Asian financial centers by 2027. However, analysts emphasize that regulatory completion, technical readiness, and specific client agreements remain vital milestones before the platform becomes fully operational across all target jurisdictions.
